The Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Ranger Coordinator to lead and oversee the Ngalmuka (Women’s) Ranger team. This full-time role involves coordinating conservation, land management and cultural programs, working collaboratively with the broader ranger team and on specific projects tailored to women.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Daily Operations: Plan and coordinate day-to-day activities and on-Country operations.
  • Team Supervision: Provide logistical support, supervision, and mentoring
  • Deliver key programs including fire management, weed and feral animal control, cultural site protection, and bush medicine gardens.
  • Training and Development: Coordinate training sessions and support rangers in their professional development
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with Land Manager, Fire Operations team, Healthy Country Projects Manager, and various community groups to implement the annual Ranger work plan.
  • Guided By: Healthy Country Monitoring and Evaluation Committee and Board of Directors. 
  • Administration: Oversee equipment, manage assets, and ensure efficient planning and organisation of ranger activities.

Key Work Programs:

  • Fire management (wet season burning, early dry season burning, late season firefighting)
  • Weed control and feral animal management
  • Culture camps and rock art site protection
  • Signage installation and maintenance
  • Bush medicine garden management

Reporting Relationships:

  • The Ranger Coordinator reports to the Land Manager
  • The role involves coordinating a team of Indigenous Rangers and working with autonomy and responsibility

About You

  • Qualifications in natural resource management or environmental science, or extensive experience in land management and ranger programs.
  • Practical skills in managing 4WDs, quad bikes, ATVs, and related equipment.
  • Strong understanding of fire management in savanna ecosystems.
  • Experience in weed control and management, including the use of spraying equipment.
  • Proficiency in administration and computer systems (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and databases (ESS database).
  • Experience using GIS technology.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage a team effectively.
  • Excellent communication and people management skills
  • Understanding of cultural protocols and the ability to work sensitively with Traditional Owners.
  • Current First Aid certificate, Police Check, and Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain).
