Based in the Great Southern coastal region of Western Australia, the Torbay Catchment Group Inc. (TCG) is a non-profit and community-run corporation committed to: promoting sustainable land use and reducing nutrient loading of waterways, lakes and inlets; supporting biodiversity and conservation of our natural environment with community involvement and understanding.  

Situated on the south coast of Western Australia, the greater Torbay catchment covers approximately 45,000 hectares between the towns of Albany and Denmark and includes over a thousand landholdings. Land use is predominantly agricultural, except for the southwestern and southeastern coastal areas which contain the West Cape Howe and Torndirrup National Parks. The catchment is within a world recognised biodiversity hotspot with significant conservation values.

The role

The Torbay Catchment Group is seeking a new Project Officer to join our team. The position will initially be 0.6 FTE with the opportunity for additional hours for the project officer in the future pending on the outcomes of grant applications.The person taking on this position will deliver current programs and project activities, project reporting, financial and project management, as well as contributing to developing new projects. The role is based in the Shire of Albany with flexible working-conditions for the right person. Demonstrated ability to work well within a team and to successfully build and nurture relationships with the community will be highly regarded. The successful candidate will also require strong attention to detail, ability to work flexible hours, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Essential criteria

  • Skills and experience in project management directly related to Natural Resource Management
  • Ability to work in a small team of project staff to coordinate, manage and implement project activities
  • Ability to work with the Finance and Executive Officers to maintain and coordinate sound financial management of projects
  • Ability to contribute to marketing and communications of projects of the group to its members, key partners, the community and industry stakeholders
  • Skills and experience in using QGIS, Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to maintain and adhere to required Work Health and Safety policies and standards

Familiarity and experience in:

  • Applying for grants
  • Revegetation
  • Access control including fencing
  • Fauna surveys
  • Agriculture
  • Contractor liaison
  • State or Commonwealth NRM funding
  • Remote camera monitoring
  • Coordinating workshops and events
