Abzeco is an ecological consulting practice and land management business specialising in flora and fauna survey and monitoring, Bushfire Management Plans, Habitat Hectare Assessments, Biodiversity Assessment Reports, Land Management Plans, Commonwealth and Victorian offset site assessments and Offset Management Plans, ecological management and restoration, weed mapping, salvage and translocation of  threatened flora and fauna species, design and implementation of pest control programs and expert environmental and conservation planning advice. Abzeco is also a registered native vegetation credit register Offset Broker.

The Abzeco team combines the knowledge and training of our botanists, zoologist, ecologists and GIS technicians with the technical and practical skills of our experienced qualified field crew.

We are looking for a Field Crew Team Leader to provide technical expertise to the broader field crew in flora identification to manage bushland and grassland areas.

Our ideal candidate will be well-organised, personable, a great communicator with a solutions-focused attitude, capable of working independently and within a team.

This role is available on a full-time basis based in our Sunshine depot.

Your daily responsibilities:

• Plan and supervise field crew operations to undertake the removal of woody and herbaceous weeds from high bio-diversity bushland and grassland areas
• Oversee the application of a wide variety of weed control techniques including use of herbicides
• Provide technical support to identify indigenous vegetation, noxious and environmental weeds
• Assist in the preparation and planning of indigenous revegetation works programs through planting, grass harvesting and herbaceous seed collection
• Assist burn planning and execution as required
• Plan and directly undertake other in-field work for projects as required
• Assist schedule management plans and reporting on long-term projects
• Manage issues in relation to jobs undertaken e.g. equipment requirements, OH&S issues etc.
• Provide technical guidance to build the field crew knowledge in flora identification.

To be considered for this role you will have:

• Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a Field Crew or a similar role.
• Experience in management of grasslands
• Region specific knowledge in flora identification skills
• Expert in vegetation management and rehabilitation works including chemicals handling in accordance with the SDS and Abzeco OH&S procedures.
• Experience with tools and equipment common to the industry including chainsaws, brush cutters, spray backpacks and water tanks
