Arborline Nursery is a major nursery in Southwest Victoria (located in Hamilton) growing forestry seedlings and cuttings for the hardwood and softwood industry as well as a range of species for farm shelter, farm forestry, riparian, wetland and re-vegetation plantings.
The nursery is a modern innovative facility propagating up to 7 million plants per annum. It was established in 2000 developing a reputation for quality plants and service.
An opportunity exists for a production manager to manage the day to day growing.
Salary will be commensurate with experience.
The position would entail:
- Propagating to produce plants to required specifications at despatch.
- Supervising the seeding and cutting programs; and consolidation/sorting ready for despatch.
- Planning and carrying out the irrigation, disease and pest control needs.
- Planning and maintaining of detailed growing and production records.
- Collaborating with other key staff including the Native Vegetation Grower/Co-ordinator and Maintenance Manager.
- Supervision, management and training of nursery hand staff.
- Liaising and planning growing and despatch with our forestry clients.
- Participation in and continuing development of our OHS program.
- Reporting to the General Manager.
Experience:
- Demonstrated propagating and growing experience.
- Ability to collaborate with key staff and supervise nursery hands.
- A keen interest in propagating and growing plants.
Qualifications:
- Horticultural qualifications at tertiary level would be looked upon favourably
- A minimum of TAFE Horticulture Cert 3 or 4 or appropriate experience
- Proficiency in spreadsheet programs and other Microsoft Office applications
- Very good written communication and numeracy skills
