Working under the direction of the Environmental Management Program Manager, the Project Manager (Ranger Operations) works in partnership with the Project Manager, Business Support and other LSMU Project areas on the Torres Strait Indigenous Ranger program delivery.

This position will manage and support the day-to-day operational procedures and associated requirements of rangers, and work closely with the Corporate Services team on infrastructure, assets, resources, IT services, and storage and security requirements.  

The position is supported by four Senior Natural Resource Management Ranger Supervisors who manage rangers in four regional clusters. The position is also supported by a Senior Natural Resource Management Officer (Marine Coordination) who oversees the vessel fleet operations and maintenance.

Duties/tasks will be varied and may include:

  1. Manage and monitor the substantial budget for Ranger operations;
  2. Assist with NIAA reporting across LSMU team;
  3. In partnership with other TSRA areas, plan, implement and supervise acquisition and maintenance program for TSRA vessels, vehicles, infrastructure and small plant and equipment;
  4. Coordinate plant and equipment, vehicles and vessels in accordance with TSRA policies, procedures and guidelines. This includes management, maintenance, and replacement;
  5. Develop and implement safety management systems and a culture of risk management within the Ranger Program, including managing emergency response situations as required;
  6. Plan, implement and evaluate vessel management procedures including safety plans in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Domestic Commercial Vessel regime; and,
  7. Establish and maintain effective liaison with Port Authorities, communities, government authorities, and the general public regarding vessel operations.
