The opportunity

As part of the Recovery Team, this is an exciting opportunity to help to coordinate and implement priority actions for the South-eastern Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo (SERTBC) recovery plan, which sets out the objectives and actions needed to improve and manage the most significant short-term threats to the cockatoos in the south-east of South Australia and south-west of Victoria.  The role has a strong community engagement focus, which will help to improve habitat used by the cockatoo and other threatened fauna and flora.

To be successful, you will need a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in natural sciences, together with a demonstrated knowledge of bird conservation in Australia.  Experience in working successfully with rural community groups is essential, as is a current driver’s licence and access to your own vehicle.  Knowledge of the South-eastern Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo and threats to the population will be highly valued.  Experience in threatened species management and recovery is a desirable criteria.

What you need to know 

This is a part-time (0.8 FTE) role offered on a maximum-term contract for 4 years.  Please note the position is based within the range of the cockatoos in either the south-east of South Australia or south-western Victoria.  It is expected that the successful applicant will work from a home office.  Office and vehicle expenses will be reimbursed. 

Applicants must possess corresponding work rights to be eligible for appointment and a current national police check (NPC) (or willingness to obtain).
