The role

We are seeking an experienced seed collector to join our field based team. In this role you will contribute to harvest and production operations for the company with specific emphasis on wild seed harvests across Queensland and NSW. You will be a person that is motivated by working autonomously in the bush environment. You will utilise your skills and experience to scout, monitor and harvest native seed crops. Commitment - 5 Days/week day shift (some weekend workdays may also be required depending on harvest requirements).

Responsibilities

  • Being responsible for your own safety and the safety of the people you work with.
  • Adherence to AustraHort`s safety guidelines and procedures at all times
  • Contribute to the development of annual harvest plans from demand forecasts
  • Provide intelligence in respect of availability and supply of relevant target species

Activities

  • Manual handling, operation of harvest equipment
  • Organising harvest logistics to maximise efficiencies
  • Engagement and relationship development with landholders and land access
  • Harvesting seed from the native environment

All include but are not limited to the above. Work can be ‘just in time’ therefore the applicant must be willing to work flexibly and complete non routine tasks. 

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously in remote locations and in a small but dynamic field team
  • Unrestricted Drivers licence (necessary) and 4WD experience
  • Necessary certificates to operate required equipment for the role
  • Developed computer, numeracy and literacy skills
  • Highly developed attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills
  • Must be an Australian Citizen or be a Permanent Resident to apply
  • You need to have a level if fitness to enable regular field work in challenging environments

Desirable Criteria

  • Prior Horticulture/Agronomy experience
  • Tertiary qualifications in Horticulture/Agronomy/Ecology
  • Report writing abilities
  • First Aid certificate
