Kuuku Ya’u Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (KYAC) aims to manage the land for the benefit of all Traditional Owners, keeping culture and country healthy for future generations. Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range) National Park, situated within Cape York Peninsula Aboriginal Land (CYPAL), is a pristine natural reserve renowned for its diverse ecosystems and rich cultural heritage. The park is jointly managed by KYAC and the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS), in accordance with mutually agreed upon management plans.

About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to fill the role of Ranger Coordinator. Reporting to the KYAC Directors and working closely with QPWS, the Ranger Coordinator will be responsible for the development and oversight of day-to-day park operations. This includes leading and supervising the KYAC Ranger Team to ensure the effective execution of their duties in alignment with the jointly agreed work plan and management responsibilities.

Key duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement strategies to effectively manage park operations in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Lead and supervise the KYAC Ranger Team, providing guidance and support to ensure the successful execution of their duties.
  • Collaborate closely with QPWS to coordinate joint management activities and maintain effective communication channels.
  • Oversee the maintenance of park infrastructure, facilities, and equipment to ensure they meet safety and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor and report on park activities, including visitor numbers, environmental conservation efforts, and cultural heritage protection initiatives.
  • Foster positive relationships with stakeholders, including traditional owners, local communities, government agencies, and park visitors.

About You

  • Formal qualifications in Operations/Project Management, Natural Resource Management or a related field
  • Minimum Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management (AHC31421) or equivalent
  • Extensive experience with practical, hands-on, field work associated Natural and Cultural Resource Management and experience working in community driven NRM programs
  • Experience working in a management/leadership role in a Ranger Program or similar
  • Experience applying for, managing and acquitting grant funding
  • Experience working with Cross Cultural Sensitivity having knowledge, respect for and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures
  • High level competency with computers including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint with knowledge of GIS, GPS and database management
  • Remote living experience and ability to work away from home for extended periods depending on requirements of the project/tasks
  • Current Queensland C Class Driver’s License or willingness to obtain
