Help shape facilitate opportunities for Aboriginal people to shape water and ecological projects on the Murray as the NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) Indigenous Partnerships Facilitator.

About the role

This is an Aboriginal Identified role where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act 1977.

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for an Indigenous Partnerships Facilitator to provide opportunities for Aboriginal communities to contribute to the conservation of natural and cultural heritage, primarily in the Murray Valley National Park. This role is part of a Murray-wide initiative, The Living Murray (TLM) Program, which celebrates 21 years this year.

As the Indigenous Partnerships Facilitator you will primarily manage the delivery of the Indigenous Partnership Program, playing a key role in collaborating with Aboriginal communities, coordinating community engagement and providing opportunities for Aboriginal people to be involved in both planning and on-ground delivery of cultural and ecological projects. You will work collaboratively within your NPWS team and beyond to oversee the design, planning, delivery, and reporting of multiple community projects.

About you

You are passionate about making a positive difference working alongside local Aboriginal communities and care deeply about Country, culture and people. You are willing to work with a diverse group of stakeholders and can build and maintain positive relationships.

As an Indigenous Partnerships Facilitator you are capable managing competing priorities and working collaboratively with inter-connected teams. Ideally, you have exposure to high-volume work within a large complex organisation or similar and have a passion for achieving outcomes in a changing and diverse work environment.

To be successful in the role you will have a proven track record in coordinating community engagement opportunities and facilitating opportunities for First Nations people, including:

  • Experience in planning, implementing, and reporting on community engagement projects.
  • Capacity to manage multiple complex project tasks to meet key project milestones.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups.
  • A positive attitude and a desire to work effectively in a team environment with a collaborative approach.

Essential requirements

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent relevant working experience in project management.
  • This is an Identified role under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and as such Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role. Aboriginal identified positions are developed where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977) for Aboriginal people who meet the following criteria:
    • is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and.
    • identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and.
    • is accepted as such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
  • Experience in development and delivery of projects, including the development of project plans, monitoring of project timelines, budgets and reporting requirements, and contract administration.
