Are you ready for a rewarding role that contributes to the self-determination of First Nations peoples? We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Carbon Coordinator to join our dedicated team supporting the delivery of the Savanna Fire Management (SFM) Program in the Northern Territory.

Who are we?

The Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC) is a corporate Commonwealth entity established under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander 2005 Act (Cth) (‘the Act’) and subject to the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013. The ILSC assists Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to realise economic, social, cultural and environmental benefits that the ownership and management of land, water and water related rights can bring. The ILSC provides this assistance through the acquisition and management of rights and interests in land, salt water and fresh water country.

What is the role?

Through the Savanna Fire Management (SFM) Program, the ILSC works in partnership with Indigenous landholders to identify, develop and support the implementation of viable and sustainable fire-carbon enterprises on Indigenous-held land in the NT. Funds are available to support feasibility assessments, business planning, training, fire management operations and the purchase of relevant plant and equipment

The ILSC is seeking a proactive and agile Senior Carbon Coordinator to join our Northern Strategic Projects team. This role will play a pivotal role in:

  • Leading the development of the ILSCs carbon strategy, including high-level strategic analysis of the potential for ILSC priorities to be achieved through carbon projects, carbon farming methodology developments and government and industry initiatives.
  • Providing advice and support on carbon project management to the ILSCs Savanna Fire Management Program, ILSC Project Managers, and Indigenous groups generally as required.
  • Managing projects, including contract management of external consultants, supervising project teams, and using ILSC internal project management, contracting and finance systems as required.
  • Assisting with communications and strategy development, including contributing to the development and implementation of the ILSCs evaluation and benefits frameworks, especially indicators relating to carbon emissions, environmental performance and cultural outcomes.
  • Undertaking research and information collation, including facilitating consultation with staff and stakeholders, to assist with the development of forms of ILSC assistance, in relation to establishing and operating carbon projects to maximise Indigenous benefits.
  • Providing policy advice to ILSC staff, the Board and Executive on carbon-related developments and opportunities, based on up-to-date knowledge of national and international carbon policy, market and methodology developments. Including through engaging with internal and external stakeholders, the research community, Australian, State and Territory Government, and relevant legislation development processes.

At the ILSC we offer:

  • More than just a job. We offer you the opportunity to make a real, positive difference to the lives of First Nations peoples. When we return land and water Country to Indigenous ownership, or fund a new Indigenous enterprise or management project, we strengthen and deepen Indigenous connection to Country and advance progress towards self-determination.

    • 15.4% superannuation on top of your salary
    • Flexible hybrid work environment (2 days WFH)
    • Not-For-Profit salary packaging
