The National Parks and Wildlife Manager position is available at Port Augusta in the Flinders and Outback region.  The National Parks and Wildlife Manager is accountable to the Director, Regional Operations, National Parks and Wildlife Service.  The role leads the region's management team, fostering a culture of professionalism and high performance.  The role is responsible for the overall management of the region's public land estate - including the region's network of parks, commercial enterprises and Crown lands.  The role facilitates economic growth in the region by supporting regional employment, nature based tourism experiences, and new and innovative growth opportunities.

The National Parks and Wildlife Manager leads a team of senior regional staff charged with ensuring the delivery of a suite of park, conservation and wildlife management, visitor, fire management, asset management, co-management, commercial, heritage and wildlife management initiatives and programs. The role fosters collaborative partnerships with Aboriginal partners, community leaders, Landscape SA Boards, local government, and other external stakeholders to advance environmental stewardship and ensure that people have a strong connection to our parks, places, coasts and country.​

The National Parks and Wildlife Manager directs key projects and programs and leads staff, workplace safety and administrative arrangements across the region and effectively supports and inspires regional staff to deliver the highest quality outcomes in the work they do.​

Competitive salary - MAS3 $127,859 per annum, plus 11.5% superannuation, and recreation leave loading. Total package value approximately $143,000 per annum. Additional attraction allowance may be negotiable for the right candidate.

  • Proven experience in leading and managing staff, including experience in the training and development of staff.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills which facilitate effective working relationships with team members, senior managers, staff, community, and regional leaders including landholders, volunteer groups, other government agencies and aboriginal communities.
  • Experience in community engagement, visitor services management and developing sustainable tourism opportunities in a park management context, and a knowledge of lease management practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the management of ecological and nature conservation management principles and practices including water resources, wildlife management, fire management, control of environmental pest plant and animal species, habitat restoration and associated threat abatement across terrestrial, riverine and marine environments.​
