Abzeco is an ecological consulting and land management business specialising in flora and fauna survey and monitoring, Bushfire Management Plans, Habitat Hectare Assessments, Biodiversity Assessment Reports, Land Management Plans, Offset Management Plans, ecological management, and restoration, weed mapping, salvage and translocation of rare or threatened flora and fauna species, design and implementation of pest control programs and expert environmental and conservation planning advice.

The Abzeco team combines the knowledge and training of our botanists, zoologist, ecologists and GIS technicians with the technical and practical skills of our experienced qualified field crew. 

We deploy a number of field crew from our Sunshine depot to complete a broad range of land management and restoration activities including, weed and pest animal mapping and control, revegetation, and ecological burns.

We are currently looking for a Depot Coordinator to ensure the Sunshine depot infrastructure needs of the business are met along with maintenance of the company fleet and equipment. A core part of your role will be to develop annual depot management plans and budget. You will be managing vehicle and equipment capacity along with procuring new equipment to ensure the business receives value for money. The successful incumbent will impart their knowledge to field crew staff and train them in the safe and effective use of the fleet and equipment.

This role is available on a part-time basis (15 hours over 3 days) and is primarily based in our Sunshine depot with a requirement to visit our Eltham depot twice a fortnight. The position will suit someone who is retired or semi-retired, enjoys and is experienced in maintaining and working with power tools and is looking for that part time opportunity.

The suitable candidate must have at least 3+ years’ experience in a Depot Coordinator role or another relevant role.  

On a daily basis you will:

  • Proactively schedule the maintenance of vehicle and equipment to minimise downtime in the field.
  • Perform necessary checks to ensure faulty vehicles and equipment are returned into service including, QuickSpray rigs/hoses/pump, knapsacks and chainsaws. The ability to service small motors is a must.
  • Collaborate with People Leaders to identify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity.
  • Maintain an UpToDate chemical register.
  • Provide ongoing support in all matters related to safe chemical use, handling and storage.
  • Ensure staff have appropriate knowledge and skills required to work with chemicals.

To be considered for this role you will preferably have:

  • Experience and skill to assist in development of Abzeco procedures and policy.
  • Experience in providing guidance and training in equipment use and maintenance.
  • Ability to show initiative in relation to opportunities for Abzeco
  • Specialist role in the company.
  • Experienced in maintenance and operation of tools and equipment common to the industry such as chainsaw, brush cutter, QuickSpray rigs, diaphragm pumps, hoses, knapsacks, Honda engines.
  • Ability to foster a productive and positive team culture.
  • Knowledge to ensure all OH&S requirements are adhered to.
