About the Role

We are excited to expand our team with a passionate and skilled Ecologist / Senior Ecologist. This role is ideal for someone who possesses an in-depth understanding of Australian ecosystems and ecological principles, along with expertise in scientific report writing, spatial modeling, and statistical analysis.

In this role, you'll play a key part in delivering comprehensive ecological assessments, environmental management solutions, and conservation planning for diverse projects across Australia, particularly in Queensland and New South Wales. You'll work on both large-scale and small-scale projects for a variety of clients, ensuring compliance with State and Commonwealth guidelines.

Your responsibilities will include conducting ecological assessments, managing data, preparing detailed reports, drafting proposals, liaising with clients, and overseeing project timelines and budgets.

This is a full-time position with flexibility in location; you can choose to be based in our Brisbane, Gold Coast, or Rockhampton offices.

About You

To thrive in this role, you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Ecology, Biology, or Environmental Sciences.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Proven expertise in ecological surveys and reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of Queensland and New South Wales flora and fauna, including skills in species identification, handling, and management.
  • Experience in planning, coordinating, and conducting ecological fieldwork.
  • Familiarity with Environmental Impact Statement requirements in Queensland or New South Wales, particularly relating to ecology.
  • A solid understanding of Queensland and Commonwealth environmental legislation.
  • Willingness and capability to conduct fieldwork in remote locations.
  • Demonstrated skills in data analysis and scientific report writing.
  • Excellent time management and project management capabilities.
  • A strong commitment to safety and safe work practices.
  • Well-developed analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of people and maintain safe practices in the field.
  • current driver’s license (manual vehicle preferred).

Highly Regarded Skills and Attributes:

  • Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM) accreditation.
  • Experience in freshwater aquatic environments.
  • Construction white card.
  • Proficiency in QGIS and/or ArcGIS mapping.
  • Experience with Python coding.
  • Proven ability to prepare a range of high-quality consulting reports.
  • Prior experience in ecological consulting (preferably in Queensland or New South Wales).
  • Completion of major project safety inductions and training.
  • Strong skills in project, budget, and client management.
