About the Role: This traineeship is designed for someone who is eager to kickstart a rewarding career in conservation. As a trainee, you’ll work alongside experienced conservation professionals, gaining hands-on experience while completing your Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management (specialising in ecological restoration). This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge needed to manage and protect natural ecosystems. It is also the only AABR recognised course in Victoria making it easy for you to gain AABR accreditation in the future.

What You'll Learn: During this traineeship, you’ll gain practical experience and develop specialist skills in:

  • Plant Biology & Identification: Learn how to identify various plant species and understand their biology to effectively manage and protect ecosystems.
  • Weed Control Techniques: Master the strategies and techniques necessary for controlling invasive weeds and maintaining healthy habitats.
  • Operation of Small Plant Equipment: Gain experience in operating a range of small plant equipment essential for conservation work.
  • Conducting Site Inspections: Learn how to assess and evaluate sites for conservation and restoration projects.
  • Ecological Restoration Standards: Understand and apply the National Standards for Ecological Restoration in your work.
  • Regeneration Techniques: Explore regeneration techniques and learn to identify the potential for natural regeneration in different ecosystems.
  • Ecosystem Reconstruction: Develop skills in ecosystem reconstruction, including plant propagation and seed collection to support biodiversity.
  • Soil Understanding: Gain an understanding of soil health, degrading factors, and their impact on ecosystems.
  • Mapping for Restoration: Learn to use and produce maps to plan and execute ecological restoration projects.
  • Safe Use of Herbicides: Get trained in the careful and considered use of herbicides to manage invasive species safely and effectively.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A genuine passion for the environment and conservation.
  • A willingness to learn and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
  • A commitment to completing the Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management as part of the traineeship.
  • Previous experience in conservation or a related field is a bonus, but not required.
