Position Summary: 

As a GIS Analyst at The Environmental Factor, you will play a pivotal role in harnessing the power of GIS software to analyse spatial and non-spatial data collected from the field by our dedicated Ecologists and Environmental Consultants. Reporting to the Senior GIS Analyst and the Director, your responsibilities will involve data research, database analysis, and the creation of high-quality maps. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the delivery of top-notch products that meet expectations and comply with legal requirements.

This position is based in Bathurst and entails a hybrid work model, including working from home as part of our standard practice.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare field data for mobile devices.
  • Conduct GNSS data collection during site visits.
  • Create complex, high-quality maps by consolidating data from external and internal databases.
  • Demonstrate exceptional GIS, Spatial, and Data Analytical skills.
  • Generate metadata and acknowledge data sources tied to spatial information collated and created.
  • Lead the development and management of spatial data, GIS products, technical projects, and reports, ensuring objectives and deadlines are met.
  • Establish and implement standards and procedures for GIS data analysis and capture.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research and analysis to inform evidence-based options and recommendations to support policy and program development and implementation.
  • Build strong relationships with Ecologists to ensure accurate data representation.
  • Analyse current business processes and recommend best-practice GIS solutions.
  • Assist in drafting technical reports and findings; within the field of Environmental Impacts Assessment (EIA).
  • Attending and assisting with fieldwork where required.
  • Attend Project Briefing meetings with clients or Ecologists to discuss project scope and aims.
  • Participate in training courses, webinars, and seminars to acquire new skills and knowledge.
  • Ensure maps and analyses are delivered to standard, within project budgets and on time.
  • Train and mentor GIS users and Ecologists on new field data devices and GIS software.

To be considered for the role, you should have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Spatial Information Systems or a related field.
  • Proficiency in spatial and statistical analysis.
  • Broad knowledge of GIS applications, with a preference for expertise in QGIS.
  • Familiarity with environmental practices relevant to mapping requirements.
  • Experience in fieldwork including data collection and provisions for assistance to ecologists.
  • Experience in proposal writing and developing budgets.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Australian environmental legislation.
  • Knowledge of environmental practices applicable to mapping requirements.
  • Knowledge of drone operations for site surveys and supporting data analysis with a valid drone licence being advantageous.
  • Ability to work outdoors in unpleasant climatic conditions.
  • Be based in regional NSW with the availability to travel for fieldwork.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of scripting GIS solutions in Python and other languages is advantageous.
  • A minimum of a graduate to 5+ years of experience in a similar role.
