Your Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Maintenance Crew Member to be based out of our Fairfield Depot in Melbourne. As a Crew Member of the Maintenance team, you are an integral part of our long-term success. you will help construct and maintain our wetland construction sites. You love to work outdoors and get your hands dirty.

Our projects are all around the outer suburbs of Melbourne and Greater Geelong regions, our depots are based in Fairfield, Werribee and Geelong, we also have a nursery in Bangholme.

As a Crew Member of the Maintenance team, you are an integral part of our long-term success. You will help establish our construction sites and make them greater and greener. You love to work outdoors and get your hands dirty: preparing soil, laying jute and planting plants will be the main tasks for construction then you will also conduct the maintenance of remnant native bushland, constructed wetlands and newly built native landscapes all around the Melbourne region. You have a motivating attitude, you are keen to help your crew members, the site supervisors and project managers to construct and maintain our WSUD wetland and revegetation projects.

As with most outdoor work, we are subject to all extremities of the weather, in winter and in summer. As such, it is important to be able to flourish within the occasionally challenging conditions that our environment provides. You will work in a team setting, so working with others and demonstrating effective communication is crucial to the application of tasks throughout the day.

We are seeking individuals looking to contribute to the Maintenance of native wetlands throughout the Melbourne region and as such individuals who value the environment would likely find meaningful employment and a team in which they can apply themselves. We are seeking individuals looking to learn new skills and grow within the company.

Your Responsibilities

The below outlined duties and responsibilities are the basic requirements when working for us. Our internal Balance Enviro policies and procedures are the foundation of our doing, these might be accompanied by our contractors', clients' or site-specific procedures.

  • Assist other crew members and leaders to perform work tasks in a safe manner and to a professional standard.
  • Behave to the standards set by your crew members and leaders.
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively in a team environment, communicate clearly and ask questions when clarification is required.
  • Follow work task instructions from the Project Manager/Supervisor and other leaders. This might include but is not limited to: work task safety, work tasks procedures, machinery use and maintenance, pre-starts.
  • Follow our SWMS, policies & procedures. This might include but is not limited to: Uniform and PPE compliance, incident reporting.
  • Take part and actively participate in the fortnightly toolbox meetings.
  • Regularly submit improvement suggestions.

Selection Criteria

To be successful in this role, you need to bring these characteristics and qualifications to the job.

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated experience in environmental tasks such as, but not limited to: revegetation works, planting, hand weeding, brush cutting, landscaping, chainsaw work.
  • Herbicide application, backpack and target weed control.
  • Ability to identify indigenous and exotic flora species.
  • Industry-related license and certification, Chem Cert (ACUP), Chaninsaw.

Required:

  • Driver's licence.
  • Construction White Card required.
  • A genuine interest in native plants and landscapes.
  • Willing to learn and adapt.
  • Desire to work outdoors all-year round.
  • Practical work experience, manual labour.
  • Organised, goal-orientated with efficient work attitude.
  • Ability to motivate yourself and others.
  • Respectful and professional behaviour, appreciating individual differences.
