Location:

Salary etc:

$90,623 - $101,416 p.a. + super & 9-day fortnight. Permanent, Full-time.

We're looking for a proactive and creative person to join our Catchments Team! This diverse role involves both analytical and strategic work, along with fieldwork and collaboration with key partners in the beautiful Hornsby Shire.

About Us

Hornsby Shire is located on Sydney's upper north shore, approximately 25 kilometres north of the CBD and approximately 45 minutes south of the Central Coast. Known as the ‘Bushland Shire’, our local government area is characterised by bushland comprising national park, major waterways, natural reserves and rural landscapes, with the rest of the Shire combining urban, rural and open spaces.

About the role

We're looking for a passionate and driven individual who’s excited to help protect and conserve Hornsby Shire's water systems, waterways, and catchments. As part of the Catchments Team in the Council’s Environment Branch, you'll play a key role in keeping our catchment areas healthy, which is vital for our waterways, aquatic life, and communities.

In this role, you will:

  • Create and carry out plans for managing catchment areas.
  • Provide advice, educate, and engage with stakeholders.
  • Connect and expand professional networks to facilitate catchment health outcomes
  • Conduct investigations, field surveys, research, and data analysis to ensure good water quality, healthy ecosystems, and smart urban water design.

About you

We’re looking for a creative thinker who can come up with smart solutions for managing catchments and estuaries by gathering, analyzing, and presenting information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

This role offers a variety of work environments, from the beautiful outdoors of our bushland shire and the scenic Hawkesbury estuary to laboratory work and collaboration with a passionate team of environmental officers in our modern Hornsby office.

We want someone proactive and enthusiastic who enjoys working outdoors and has strong organizational, interpersonal, and time-management skills. You'll need a NSW Class C Driver’s Licence, and it’s great if you have or can get a Coxswain Grade 3 near Coastal certificate and have some boating experience. This role involves planning and executing projects, securing grants, and supporting fellow team members in the Environment Branch.

If you’re excited about a role that blends analytical thinking with hands-on outdoor work, we encourage you to apply and make a real impact with our highly regarded Environment Team.

Benefits of working with us!

  • Salary: $90,623 to $101,416 per annum, plus superannuation and a 9 day fortnight.
  • Appointed salary in this range will be based on skills, qualifications and experience.
