Set on the beautiful King George Sound and Princess Royal Harbour, the charming city of Albany is famous for the breathtaking beauty of its rugged coastline and its early Western Australian maritime history. Albany is the retail hub of the Great Southern Region, has an extensive range of health, education and recreation services, and is surrounded by world-class wineries.

Under the limited direction of the District Manager, this position:

Responsible for coordinating and participating in the development, implementation and joint management of the proposed South Coast Marine Park and the Marine Park Management Plan associated with the Wagyl Kaip Southern Noongar in the Albany district.

Responsible for the ongoing consultation and engagement of the Traditional Owner group within the marine park to ensure stakeholder and community involvement in marine protected area management.

The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.

Selection Criteria

  1. Considerable knowledge of and experience in marine estate management, including developing and coordinating work plans and strategies, marine operations, education, enforcement, research and monitoring, plus familiarity with the principles of planning in the marine environment and having knowledge of marine, coastal and island ecology.
  2. Considerable understanding of and experience in working with Traditional Owners to deliver their native title aspirations and goals through joint management, cooperation, or collaborative arrangements with a preference for someone with an understanding of the annual planning and prioritising processes involved in the implementation of joint management plans.
  3. Evidence of, highly developed interpersonal and oral communication skills, demonstrated experience in effective management and leadership of teams and in developing and maintaining positive relationships with commercial operators, key stakeholders, community groups and the media.
  4. Demonstrated experience in, and knowledge of administrative and financial management, including budget preparation, expenditure control and preparing and presenting operational reports.
