About AEP:

With offices in Sydney and Newcastle, employing over 50 staff, AEP works throughout NSW providing high level environmental services, advice, strategic direction and management for sectors including conservation, government, energy, land development, infrastructure, legal, mining and quarrying. AEP conducts biodiversity, bushfire, arboriculture and general environmental assessment and management, with consulting works carried out for a wide variety of public and private sector clients.

The role is offered as a full-time position based in our Sydney or Newcastle office, but happy to consider other locations for experienced applicants.

You will be responsible for undertaking both desktop and on-ground site inspections, preparing a range of bushfire assessment and reporting to support our client’s needs This will include , but not be limited to, Bushfire Threat Assessments, Design advice, Bushfire Emergency and Evacuation Management Plans,  Hazard Reduction Plans and Ecological Burn Plans for Conservation sites..[CW1] 

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Conduct site inspections to inform opportunities and constraints assessments, Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) assessments, Bushfire Hazard Level (BHL) assessments, Bushfire Management Plans (BMPs), emergency management planning, bushfire risk management plans and compliance audit reports;
  • Apply relevant NSW bushfire policy, guidelines and standards;
  • Prepare high quality reports consistent with AEP company standards, ensuring technical defensibility;
  • Prepare fee proposals, ensuring accurate cost calculations and required scoping;
  • Manage projects in line with client and company expectations;
  • The ability to mentor staff with your technical expertise; 

About You

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to analyse and write accurate reports and complex proposals.
  • A motivated team player that can work independently and project manage;
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant NSW bushfire planning legislation and guidelines for planning in bushfire prone areas, Australian Standard 3959 and other related guidance documents produced by the NSW Rural Fires Service and local government;
  • Ability to have a laugh;

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of practical experience in bushfire management planning or consultancy;
  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Sciences, Planning or building desirable;[CW2]
  • FPAA BPAD 3 accreditation preferred but will consider the right candidate with a BPAD Level 2 accreditation
  • Can-do attitude, regardless of the task before you;
  • Current driver’s license and willingness to travel for site visits;
  • Proficiency in using GIS software for mapping and in-field GPS data collection. Ideally using the ESRI software package is highly desirable;A current White Card and Senior First Aid Certificate will be looked on favourable but not essential prerequisites;
