A bit about the role

Step into the role of Environmental Planner, focusing on native vegetation and biodiversity. Drive strategic planning initiatives, ensure regulatory compliance, and lead efforts to foster environmental sustainability within a collaborative and dynamic team setting.

What you’ll deliver

  • Provide detailed responses to environmental planning referrals and pre-application discussions, emphasising native vegetation and biodiversity.
  • Contribute environmental input to strategic planning processes such as Precinct Structure Plans (PSPs) and Development Plans (DPs).
  • Advise internal and external stakeholders on native vegetation and biodiversity values within planning schemes.
  • Provide expertise on the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act (FFG Act) and Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC Act).
  • Develop and deliver internal training programs related to Clause 52.17 and relevant legislation.
  • Assist in the formulation and implementation of Council policies and strategies for environmental planning.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualification in environmental planning, science, natural resources, management, ecology, or related fields with relevant work experience.
  • Proficient understanding of Victorian planning schemes concerning native vegetation and biodiversity.
  • Experience in preparing and/or reviewing ecological assessments, arboriculture reports, and planning applications focusing on native vegetation and biodiversity considerations.
  • Ability to identify native vegetation and habitat for threatened species.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check, Eligibility to Work check & Functional Assessment (Medical/physio).
  • Driver's Licence which is valid to drive within Victoria.
  • A curious, collaborative, and inclusive community mindset.
