The Opportunity

We are seeking proactive, dynamic, and forward-thinking Environmental professionals to join Maritime to support our infrastructure planning and delivery teams.

  • As our Principal Environmental Officer (L7), you will be responsible for overseeing a small team of dedicated environmental professionals leading approval and compliance processes for significant Maritime Infrastructure projects. You will participate as a senior team member on key projects, providing specialist environmental advice including compliance obligations. You will be a strategic thinker who develops effective relationships with environmental regulators, government authorities and external stakeholders.

  • As an experienced Senior Environmental Officer (L6), you will be responsible for managing complex environmental and regulatory processes for marine infrastructure projects, securing approvals, managing our Environmental Management System, and leading the development of sustainability strategies. You will promote best practice in the areas of environmental management and sustainability aligned with the Department’s plans to meet State Government objectives.

The Department plans, develops, manages, and regulates numerous maritime facilities throughout Western Australia and these positions support to those functions through the provision of expert environmental advice and leading and securing project approvals. Some regional travel will be required to engage with stakeholders and perform site visits. 

There are currently the following positions available for immediate filling:

  • 1 x L7 permanent (Principal Environmental Officer) full-time position
  • 1 x L6 permanent (Senior Environmental Officer) full-time position,
  • 1 x L6 fixed term full-time position (Senor Environmental Officer) until April 2027 with possibility of extension or permanency

Shortlisted applicants will be invited for interview with successful candidates being either offered one of the 3 positions immediately available or placed in a pool from which future appointments may be made if similar future vacancies (fixed term or permanent) arise within the next 12 months, from date of first appointment across the Department of Transport. 

About you

You will have extensive experience in the following areas: 

  • Knowledge of the environmental regulatory frameworks relevant to marine infrastructure projects.
  • Determining and leading environmental studies to support maritime projects through the planning, approvals, delivery, and operations phases.
  • Participation as a key member on project teams to provide specialist environmental advice.
  • Managing environmental risk and leading improvement processes including sustainability strategies for the Department.
  • Represent the Department in complex negotiations and as the Department’s Environmental expert.
  • Exemplify personal integrity and self-awareness.
  • Cultivate strong, productive working relationships and partnerships.
