OzFish Unlimited partners with fishers and the broader community to invest time and resources into the protection and restoration of our waterways, counteracting decades of degradation. 

About the Role

The Tackling Litter Project Manager is responsible for implementing OzFish Unlimited’s litter prevention strategy and roadmap, with the aim to achieve our goal of preventing litter within the recreational fishing community and industry. This means engaging with our target audience (recreational fishers) to promote and undertake litter prevention activities, engaging with the recreational fishing industry on reducing waste, and engaging with local government throughout NSW to improve infrastructure and collection of recreational fishing waste.

  • Will activate the OzFish litter prevention strategic plan to be highly effective in achieving our goals, but also efficient working with tight budgets and a small team.
  • Will have experience working with litter prevention activities and engaging with volunteers.
  • Will work autonomously and perform efficiently under deadlines.
  • Will understand the passion our staff and members have for the environment and for the people who fish.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Plan, coordinate and implement the OzFish recreational fishing litter prevention strategy and roadmap
  2. Engage recreational fishers in clean ups, data and monitoring activities and litter prevention training.
  3. Foster relations with key recreational fishing industry contacts and recreational fishing influencers to drive action on litter prevention.
  4. Establish partnerships with local councils to divert recreational fishing waste from landfill.
  5. Champion our unique fisher engagement process and craft and implement community engagement plans to fulfill our litter prevention goals.
  6. Keep abreast of industry trends and best practices and recommend changes to the OzFish litter prevention strategy as needed.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Formal qualifications in environmental science, community engagement, or related field.
  • Significant and demonstrated experience in project management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience in litter prevention and/or waste management activities.
  • Understanding and experience with recreational fishing industry or environment industry or both an advantage.

Key Skills

  • Ability to think innovatively and plan strategically, to make greatest impact with small budget, by identifying opportunities and making informed decisions based on data.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively for a specific target audience.
  • A deep understanding of the waste management and recycling landscape
  • Effective communication and people skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels with a diverse range of stakeholders, internally and externally.
