The Role:

In this role, you will conduct specialised fieldwork and research activities in Nature Parks, collaborating closely with the Conservation team. Responsibilities include coordinating and conducting fieldwork, collecting and managing data, and engaging in science communication as needed. You will also supervise Research Officers and facilitate collaboration with Traditional Owners and external stakeholders. Your work will contribute to evidence-based improvements and the development of priority research programs aligned with the Conservation Vision and 5-year Conservation Plan.

About you:

  • Minimum three years’ experience in Ecology/Zoology or related field.
  • Proficient in seabird habitat fieldwork and wildlife capture (especially little penguins).
  • Skilled in zoological techniques (e.g., blood sampling, transponder injection).
  • Strong data management and database skills.
  • Ability to work independently in remote locations.
  • Experienced in report writing and leadership.
  • Familiarity with wildlife coordination and volunteer training.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Collaborate on priority wildlife programs.
  • Conduct and coordinate research and monitoring activities.
  • Implement specialized fieldwork procedures and zoological techniques.
  • Manage field equipment and logistics.
  • Collect, analyze, and maintain project data in multiple databases.
  • Train and supervise staff, interns, and volunteers in fieldwork and data management.
  • Support emergency wildlife response and animal welfare initiatives.
  • Contribute to scientific reports and program updates.

Other Requirements:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with Honours in Ecology/Zoology, or a related field, and/or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Working with Children Check.
  • Manual Drivers’ Licence.
  • First Aid Level II and CPR.
