The Role

This is a rare opportunity to take on a newly established role as the Renewable Energy Lead Ecologist at a highly regarded privately owned consulting practice in Queensland and take your career to the next level.

CQG Consulting (CQG) team is currently working on several renewable energy projects including Queensland Hydro's projects as well as hydrogen, wind farm and solar farm projects throughout the State.

Our offices are located in regions of opportunity,  in the epicentre of the Renewable Energy Zones, underpinned by strong tourism and Defence growth as well as established mining and agriculture sectors. CQG has been delivering environmental, planning, engineering and sustainability advisory services for over two decades and is on a pathway to build our practice across Queensland.

As the Renewable Energy Lead Ecologist you will shape and expand CQG's business in the renewable space supported by our team of capable ecologists.  We will support your individual growth in this role through attendance at key renewable energy events where they will be of benefit to yourself and to CQG. 

Ideally you have experience as a Senior or Principal Ecologist in Australia with a demonstrated ability to produce high quality outputs and a knowledge and passion to develop your career in this rapidly developing sector.

CQG proudly works closely with First Nation groups across Queensland to deliver projects, including Tunuba, a Supply Nation business our owners established with the Darumbal People in 2019.

You have the choice to live in Brisbane or or in one of our regional offices and work with our team of smart professionals who are passionate about their work and the communities in which they live and play.

You will be responsible for:

  • Designing, planning and coordinating teams to conduct investigations and prepare technical reports for impact assessments, ecological surveys, monitoring, biocondition assessments, weed surveys and protected plant surveys
  • Working with our clients to ensure their developments and operations are minimising their impacts and implementing remediation and rehabilitation programs.
  • Working with CQG's team of professionals throughout Queensland to deliver high quality services to our clients.
  • Building on the strong relationships we have with our existing clients.
  • Identifying and fostering new client networks to build our  Queensland practice.
  • Mentoring your team and work closely with staff in other offices.
  • Integrating into existing projects and deliver technical support in your area of expertise (ecology or environmental science).
  • Working with CQG's management team to identify opportunities for growth and delivering new services.
  • Leading projects in your area of expertise.
  • Preparing project scopes and budgets.
  • Working with our UAV/USV/ GIS teams to capture and manage data in innovative ways.

Essential Experience and Attributes

  • Tertiary qualifications in ecology, biology, zoology or environmental science.
  • At least ten years experience in ecology, environmental science or natural resource management.
  • Terrestrial flora and/or fauna survey experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and interpret ecological and spatial data.
  • A passion for the environment and regional Queensland.
  • Leadership and business building skills.
  • Project management experience.
  • Excellent research / investigation, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, and a strong commitment for client satisfaction.
  • Exceptional communication, documentation, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated time management, data management and organisational skills.
  • Proactive in approach and ability to take initiative to put forward solutions.
  • Passionate about learning, professional development and seeking out new technologies and opportunities; 
  • Strong commitment to data and document management backed with solid practical experience.
  • Willingness to roll your sleeves up and have a go.
  • A current driver's licence.
  • Able to work effectively within a team environment and to work independently.
  • High standards in ensuring a positive workplace and Work Health and Safety culture.
  • Track record working collaboratively to achieve outcomes and deadlines.
  • Experienced in budget preparation and delivery of projects.

Desirable Experience

  • Impact assessment or ecological investigations for a renewable energy development
  • Working in a consulting or client service delivery environment.
  • Experience with data collection, assessments and reporting.
  • Field experience working in remote areas.
  • 4WD skills.
