PhD opportunity: 'Smart control of stormwater treatment wetlands' (a collaboration between the University of Melbourne, Monash University, QUT, Melbourne Water and South East Water)

The Waterway Ecosystem Research Group at the University of Melbourne is working with Melbourne Water, South East Water and our collaborators at Monash University and QUT (with funding from the Australian Research Council) with the aim of revolutionising the way stormwater treatment wetlands work.  Our ultimate goal is to use real-time-control technology to operate wetlands in a way that optimises their water quality treatment performance, while also enhancing their flood mitigation and amenity functions. 

The project will involve a combination of fieldwork at our experimental wetland in Melbourne, data analysis & modelling, and will have extensive involvement with our industry partners.

To undertake this PhD, you will preferably have a background in engineering, science or environmental science, and you will be eager to work on applied research in collaboration with industry partners.

You will work in a really close-knit team, where you will be offered lots of support, under the supervision of Dr. Chris Szota and Prof. Tim Fletcher.

The PhD is open to Australian residents.  Non-residents may be considered if their academic track-record would qualify them for an international scholarship (note: these are very competitive).
