As a Senior Management Support Officer, you will be part of a dynamic team operating across multiple AFMA offices, including the Lakes Entrance office in the heart of the Victorian fishing community. The team works closely with industry and other key stakeholders to develop management arrangements, policies, programs, and advice for Commonwealth fisheries.

The primary focus of this position is to support the delivery of ecologically sustainable, cost-effective, and efficient fisheries management to the government, the fishing industry, and other key stakeholders on behalf of the Australian community. Your average day might include:

  • Interpreting data and drafting advice to support the implementation management arrangements such as total allowable catches, spatial management controls or fishing gear modifications.
  • Reviewing policy and providing advice to your senior manager, the AFMA Commission, consultative bodies, or key stakeholders such as the fishing industry, research agencies or the public on fisheries management matters.
  • Meeting with fishers or scientists across Australia to build and sustain positive relationships that advance the agency’s objectives and increase the effectiveness of our work. 

Successful applicants will be added to an order of merit list which may be used to fill future positions, including those in other AFMA offices.

Eligibility 

  • AFMA staff are employed under the Australian Public Service Act 1999. All applicants must be Australian citizens.
  • The successful applicant must hold or have the ability to obtain and maintain a baseline security clearance.   
  • The occupant of the position must have an ability to undertake interstate travel.
