Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service are looking for a hands-on senior ranger to lead maritime operations on North Stradbroke Island. As a marine ranger working on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) you will be caring for Quandamooka sea country.

We seek individuals who can bridge the gap between Quandamooka people and sea country, ensuring the protection of sacred sites and the passing down of traditional ecological knowledge to future generations.

One day you'll be educating users of the marine park and mentoring rangers on compliance, the next you are responding to a live marine mammal stranding in a remote location with only vessel access and the next you will be providing ministerial advice on marine park matters

Live on Brisbane's Bay Side: avoid the traffic and have your daily ferry travel (20 minutes) to and from North Stradbroke Island paid for!

A purpose and a challenge that matter

Your strong leadership, communication and mentoring skills will assist you in tackling evolving and competing priorities. Outdoor duties such as vessel patrols and enforcement operations will be balanced with team leadership, reporting and administrative tasks.

Our Rangers in the Marine Management Unit on North Stradbroke Island focus their skills in Moreton Bay Marine Park, but they occasionally assist other Management units across the entire length of the Great Barrier Reef and Marine Parks Region and terrestrial parks.

As a leader on North Stradbroke Island you'll form invaluable professional relationships with the Quandamooka people, Boating and Fisheries Patrol, Maritime Safety Queensland, local and other state government departments. You'll be dedicated to upholding a positive, safe, diverse and inclusive culture.

You'll need:

  • A strong understanding of marine operations, conservation, natural resource management and workplace health and safety (both physical and psychological)
  • Courageous and ethical leadership, advanced communication skills
  • The ability to form trusted relationships with the Quandamooka People
  • Organisational, change management and teamwork skills
  • Advanced compliance and enforcement skills
  • Administration, reporting, and computer skills

To be considered you must:

  • Hold an unrestricted manual driver's license
  • Provide your current resume (max 4 pages), and
  • Provide a short statement (max 2 pages) briefly describe why you are the best suited person for this role--noting, our department values equity and diversity .
