Expressions of interest - Basin Community Committee

Murray-Darling Basin Authority

The Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) is seeking expressions of interest from people interested in being appointed as a member of the Basin Community Committee (the Committee)

The Committee is established under the Water Act 2007 to provide advice to the MDBA and Murray-Darling Basin Ministerial Council, on wide ranging issues relating to water management in Australia's biggest river system. As an independent government agency the MDBA, in partnership with Murray-Darling Basin governments, manages the Basin's water resources in the national interest. With the purpose of rivers for generations, the MDBA's top priority is the wellbeing and resilience of the Basin's river system, its people, and places.

The Committee provides valued advice to the Authority on the performance of its functions including engaging the community on matters relating to Basin water resources, and preparations for the 2026 Basin Plan Review.

Members provide a Basin wide holistic perspective and are selected based on their level of expertise or interest in one or more of the following areas: community, Indigenous or local government matters relevant to Basin water resources, irrigated agriculture or environmental water management.

The Committee is made up of a Chair and up to 16 members, and typically meets up to 3 times a year in person in addition to online meetings. Members may periodically participate in subcommittees relating to Indigenous, environmental water and irrigation matters. The appointment may be for a 3-year period from April 2025. Committee members receive remuneration and allowances.
