About the role

As the Natural Resource Management Advisor you are integral to the success of V/Line's Network Development Asset and Maintenance Group.

The role reports into the Fire and Fuels Manager and is responsible for the provision of natural resource management and environmental planning advice to support the safe and efficient operation of the V/Line network. This is a niche environmental role within the rail maintenance context that requires the ability to manage your own time across both field and office-based locations.

The location for the role is flexible and can be worked from one of V/Line's depot locations including Melbourne, Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat and Warragul.

Key Accountabilities include:

  • Provide environmental assessments and planning advice to inform and support the delivery of V/Line's vegetation management programs.
  • Work closely with internal maintenance teams such as track, civil structures, facilities and vegetation.
  • Work closely with external stakeholders such as Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action and Catchment Management Authorities in the development of works on waterways permit applications.
  • Work across multiple disciplines such as civil maintenance, waterway management, bushland and fire management programs and biodiversity improvement programs.

About you

Work apart of a small team that is engaging, inclusive and diverse as well as at times autonomously.

Our ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Environmental, land management and or bushland management background is essential.
  • An understanding of Victorian legislation and environmental planning processes and controls is essential.
  • A Tertiary qualification in Ecology, Botany, Natural Resource Management, or a related discipline is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge and or experience using GIS is advantageous.
  • Previous demonstrable experience in a similar role is essential.
  • Ability to manage own time to undertake a combination of field and desktop-based work.
  • This role will suit a practical individual, with excellent attention to detail, and the ability to problem solve within a regulated environment.
