We're looking to add to our team of rangers within our Enhanced Fire Management team leading the management and protection of our protected area. We work in partnership with local communities and other stakeholders to contribute to responsible land management, recreational and conservation outcomes across the protected areas.

The Senior Ranger Fire Management is a dynamic, specialist position, playing a practical role in coordinating SE QLD's resources to deliver the region's priority planned burn program, and response to bushfires. To achieve this, you will need to be able to develop strong relationships and networks, adapting your engagement and communication styles to suit. You will also understand the challenges of fire management in a highly urbanized environment.

About you

There are no mandatory qualifications required to undertake this position, however the ideal candidate will be a team player that is passionate, positive and enjoys varied and interesting work - no two days are the same.

You will be working alongside other motivated team members, and you will be expected to be effective at managing your own time, your team and maintaining a level of safety.

Your planning skills will be key in managing competing priorities, while your ability to motivate and influence others will be the key to achieving outcomes in a busy and changing environment.

It is expected that you will have basic proficiency in the suite of Microsoft products, and considered an advantage if you have an understanding of mapping and data collection systems.

The following skills, qualifications and experience are highly desirable:

  • Strong interest in fire and ecological management.
  • Well-developed or developing knowledge of the role of fire in natural systems and the use of fire for achieving ecological outcomes and risk mitigation for the protection of life and property.
  • The possession of or the ability to acquire relevant national competencies in fire management.
  • Ability to operate light 4WD vehicles offroad and in remote locations.
  • Current first aid accreditation.
  • A Manual driver's licence is essential.

The position provides direction and supervision to the regions fire management team (operations), other key fire management personnel and managing supporting resources. A key function will be to engage with departmental staff, key stakeholders and partner agencies with regard to bushfire management and the ability to effectively represent the department.
