The Opportunity

Lithgow City Council has an exciting opportunity for a goal oriented and innovative professional to join our team in a new role as the Natural Area Management Officer.

Lithgow is a central location for a regional lifestyle and great outdoor recreational activities. Lithgow lies adjacent to the new Gardens of Stone State Conservation Area and Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, while being less than 30 minutes drive to Blackheath in the Blue Mountains, and 45 minutes drive from Bathurst.

As the Natural Area Management Officer you will provide Council with specialist and technical expertise with regard to Council managed natural assets, ecosystem management and related community ecosystem restoration projects. You will prioritise outcomes for a diverse range of land use management activities which positively impact upon the maintenance of healthy and sustainable natural areas. Additionally, you will secure and supervise internal and external funded contracts and grant funded programs, which can further enhance Council's natural assets and assist in sustainable natural resource management.

To be successful in the role you will meet all the essential selection criteria and have acquired a Tertiary qualification and/or demonstrated significant experience in Environmental Science, Environmental or Biodiversity Management, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.

Your specialist knowledge and experience in natural area management along with demonstrated working knowledge of the relevant legislative environmental planning framework will be vital to your success in this role. You will also have demonstrated experience in development of natural area plans of management, strategies, and work programs.

Additionally, you will need to display strong communication, report writing and conflict resolution skills and have the ability to handle confidential and sensitive issues.

Council is looking to make an exciting appointment to this position, and is open to discussions with the right candidate to join our forward looking team. We offer a fortnightly RDO arrangement and a broad range of professional development opportunities.

  • Between $86,086.00 and $95,669.60 per annum, commensurate with your skills, qualifications and experience .
  • Full-time, 35 hours per week.
