The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions is committed to promoting biodiversity and conservation to enrich people's lives, through sustainable management of Western Australia's species, ecosystems, lands and the attractions in the department's care.

Under direction, this position undertakes the delivery and maintenance of geographic resource information in support of biodiversity science and conservation management.

  • Applies geospatial research techniques in the Western Australian rangelands supporting conservation management.
  • Assists with the research and planning of remote sensing and spatial analysis projects and advises on the application of spatial analysis in meeting departmental objectives.
  • Undertakes requests for spatial analysis and remote sensing for the Department.

Selection Criteria

  1. Sound understanding of the application of spatial analysis or remote sensing for biodiversity conservation or natural resource management, preferably in Western Australian rangeland vegetation or fire management.
  2. Well-developed skills in spatial analysis, modelling, and raster data analysis using GIS software and Python or R.
  3. Demonstrated skills in data management and statistical analysis in platforms such as R.
  4. Well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and proven capacity for liaison and negotiation with internal and external stakeholders.
