Duties 

AFMA is seeking a suitably qualified or experienced individuals to fill the roles of Senior Fisheries Officers within AFMA’s Fisheries Operations Branch located in our Darwin office. 

The Senior Fisheries Officer assists the Managers of International Compliance Operations (ICO) and National Compliance Operations (NCO) to deliver services to combat domestic non-compliance and IUU fishing regionally and internationally, through:

  • Undertaking compliance action within the international and domestic environment, including the ability to conduct an investigation which may involve domestic and/or foreign fisherman
  • Once qualified ensuring that investigations are conducted in accordance with the Commonwealth Fraud Control Guidelines and the Australian Government Investigation Standards (AGIS).
  • The ability to design, implement and deliver MCS capacity building programs
  • The ability to obtain and provide MCS advice to other nations, regional and international organisations
  • Proactively support AFMA’s International Compliance and Engagement Program, and the National Compliance and Enforcement Program.

Eligibility 

  • AFMA staff are employed under the Australian Public Service Act 1999. All applicants must be Australian citizens.
  • Have a current security clearance at Negative Vetting Level 1 or be able to obtain such clearance
