  • Information and Retail Support Assistant, Clerk General Scale.
  • Salary range $34,231 - $67,006 per annum (pro-rata) plus loading for working weekends and public holidays, and employer's contribution to superannuation.
  • Ongoing, part-time role (21 hours per week).
  • Located at both the Warrumbungles Visitor Centre and the Pilliga Forest Discovery Centre.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to be the face of National Parks and Wildlife Service assisting visitors at the Warrumbungles Visitor Centre. You will need to have excellent knowledge of the local area and a passion for National Parks.

In this role you will be greeting visitors, providing information on all aspects of national parks, assisting with reservations, responding to customer inquiries, as well as working in the retail shop. Excellent customer service and computer skills are essential, as is an understanding of digital technology.

As the Warrumbungle Visitor Centre and the Pilliga Forest Discovery Centre are open 7 days a week, you will be required to work some weekends, public holidays, and peak periods such as school holidays and long weekends.

About you

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Experience in providing quality and courteous customer service in a professional manner; often dealing with simultaneous demands; requiring excellent time management and the ability to be flexible, particularly during high visitation times.
  • Experience working in visitor services or retail previously, dealing directly with customers and supporting/resolving their queries. Strong problem-solving skills and enjoy building rapport.
  • Good communication skills to engage with customers, stakeholders and staff and deliver accurate concise information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and to make decisions using initiative and within agreed procedures and policies.
  • Demonstrate good cash handling skills and point of sale transaction experience.

Essential requirements

  • A Working with Children Check (WWCC) is an essential requirement for this role. The role has been identified as requiring a check in keeping with the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012.
  • Understanding of and a commitment to the aims of the National Parks & Wildlife Service, including a sound appreciation of natural and cultural heritage conservation issues.
  • Experience in cash handling procedures, stock control and ordering.
  • Experience in computers and using word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Current driver's licence.

This role may involve weekend work. This is a shift-based role, under the Crown Employees (Conditions of Employment) Public Service Award.
