Join Wetland Revival Trust (WRT), a not-for-profit environmental charity committed to restoring wetlands in the southern Murray Darling Basin. At WRT, we prioritise collaboration with Traditional Owners in ecological restoration and embrace ethical and sustainable practices in all our endeavours.

We are seeking a passionate Business Manager to contribute to our ecological restoration mission.

Position Overview

As the Business Manager at WRT (part-time, 2 days per week*), you will drive operational excellence, playing a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and strategic functioning of our charity. Reporting to and collaborating closely with Directors Elaine Bayes and Damien Cook, you will leverage your strong organisational, financial, and project management skills to oversee key responsibilities such as financial and project oversight, continuous improvement of organisational practices, and seeking funding opportunities that align to our mission.

In our small but impactful team of four, where each team member covers multiple task areas, your autonomy and ability to think both big picture and through detailed actions will be critical. This role will suit a highly organised individual who thrives on contributing to our mission of ecological restoration and sustainable impact. Your efforts will directly shape the success of our initiatives, making a significant difference in the environmental conservation landscape!

*There is potential to increase this role to up to 4 days per week if the right applicant would also like to take on the concurrently advertised position of Ecological Project Manager with Wetland Revival Trust.

Your Responsibilities:

  1. Operations:
    • Support Directors organisationally and in strategic decision-making.
    • Manage day-to-day operations and establish efficient processes.
    • Contribute to strategic planning and develop action plans.
    • Manage HR functions, including recruitment and staff management.
    • Maintain centralised online filing system and provide IT support.
  1. Financial Management:
    • Oversee business accounting, financial reporting, and annual audit.
    • Collaborate with accountants on annual budgets, supplier payments, and payroll.
    • Oversee project financial tracking, reporting, and invoicing.
  1. Governance and Compliance:
    • Ensure legal requirements are met, including ACNC and REO reporting.
    • Liaise with the Committee of Management and ensure compliance with Trust Deed.
  1. Fundraising and Marketing:
    • Seek suitable grant opportunities and coordinate grant writing.
    • Engage in fundraising strategies and build relationships with funders.
    • Contribute to marketing strategies and activities.
  1. Health, Safety and Environment:
    • Continuous improvement of OHS policies and procedures.
    • Manage remote working procedures and ensure field safety.
    • Participate in training and report incidents or hazards promptly.
  1. Culture:
    • Adhere to WRT policies, including cultural training.
    • Contribute positively to team goals and provide constructive feedback.
    • Build trust and respect through effective communication.

  • Strategic planning and project management experience.
  • Good knowledge of developing sustainable business plans.
  • Excellent organisational, administrative, and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • High-level computer skills (Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Relevant tertiary qualification and/or extensive business experience.

Highly Desirable Skills and Experience:

The ideal candidate will have skills in two or more of the following areas:

  • Funding and partnership development
  • Marketing
  • Grant writing experience
  • Project Management of large projects
  • Strong knowledge of the non-profit industry.
  • Experience with Xero and Xero Projects.
