Bowra Wildlife Sanctuary is internationally renowned as one of Australia’s most rewarding bird watching destinations.

The area is now protected forever as part of Australia’s national reserve system. This diverse habitat is rich in birdlife and is a stronghold for many threatened and declining bird species.

Bowra is a 14,000 hectare reserve is home to more than 200 bird species, including nine threatened species.

In order to assist the Australian Wildlife Conservancy, manage the seasonal Campgrounds at the Bowra, a Camp Host volunteer program has been established.

This year the Camp Host Program requires a skilled couple or two friends to fill the following Months:

  • April
  • June/July
  • July/August
  • August/September
  • September/October
  • October/November

This volunteer position assists with the management of campground bookings, meets and greets visitors coming to stay at the Bowra Campgrounds, or just spending at day at the sanctuary.

No accommodation available for the Camp Host Role.

Volunteer Camp Hosts would require their own air-conditioned caravan/camper. AWC will provide a Powered site within the campground, with shared, Kitchen, Office, Bathroom and Laundry facilities. Undercover vehicle storage will be available for your stay.

A volunteer stipend payment will be available at $80 per week per person.

Volunteer Responsibilities

Daily:

  • Meet and greet all arriving guests between 7 – 9am/ 2 – 5pm and orientate around facilities.
  • Clean campground facilities between 11 – 12pm – 4 x toilets 4 x showers
  • Run Bird Call in shearing shed – 5.30pm – Daily or every third day.
  • Groundskeeping - watering, weeding, and keeping Campgrounds tidy – when time is available.
  • Learn the Booking system & record Bird call data – ONLY basic computer skills required.
  • Manage visitor phone for any enquiries.
  • Visitor Check In Shack cleaned and stocked with visitor information.
