The Organisation

The Darebin Creek Management Committee Inc. (DCMC) is a not-for-profit organisation based in Alphington, 10 km from the Mebourne CBD. We care for the Darebin Creek Catchment to ensure a healthy waterway, healthy and diverse flora and fauna, places where of people and nature can connect and spaces for recreation.

Our work includes managing the iconic Darebin Parklands, a significant 35-hectare urban park in Alphington/Ivanhoe, that supports remnant and restored native vegetation and significant public amenity. We also collaborate with stakeholders to deliver education and environmental projects on public and private lands within the Darebin Creek Valley.

The Position

DCMC is looking for a suitably qualified and passionate individual to join our Parklands Team as a Parks Assistant on a short-term, part-time contract. This role will support DCMC's Rangers to implement all aspects of the parklands management at the Darebin Parklands.

The position will be up to 3 days per week, for an initial 3-month contract. There may be opportunity to extend beyond this time.

Located at our Alphington offices at the Darebin Parklands, 10k from the Melbourne CBD, the role will undertake works including rewilding programs and the restoration and maintenance of remnant vegetation sites, maintenance, litter removal and cleaning of Darebin Parklands, the maintenance of park facilities, plant and equipment, and support a strong volunteer program and other community users of the parklands.

It will be a varied and rewarding role where the incumbent can apply their skills and learn on the job in the beautiful surrounds of the Darebin Parklands.

Qualifications And Experience

DCMC is looking for a person who has a level of demonstrated skills and experience, enjoys undertaking a wide variety or activities, is willing to learn on the job from our experience Rangers and and can communicate well with the public. Key requirements for the position are:

  • Certificate III or equivalent experience in Natural Resource Management or related discipline.
  • Experience maintaining and enhancing parks and conservation areas.
  • A strong understanding of safe work practices.
  • Victorian Drivers Licence.

The following skills and experience are desirable for the role:

  • Agricultural Chemical Users Certificate and bushland chemical application skills.
  • Plant identification skills/experience.
  • Level 1 Chainsaw Certificate.
