About The Operation

The Gelganyem Group represents the Traditional Owners for the Argyle diamond mine in the East Kimberley and administers the social and economic benefits arising under the Argyle Participation Agreement.

We are looking for a Technical Assistant to join our Technical Team to support Gelganyem and Traditional Owners in relation to all aspects of mine closure, including land management, environmental protection, and ecological restoration.

Based in Kununurra in the beautiful East Kimberley region, the role offers attractive salary sacrifice entitlements and the opportunity to be involved in a number of pioneering and exciting projects.

About The Role

The role of Technical Assistant will report to and support the work of the Technical Advisor in relation to all environmental aspects of Argyle diamond mine closure.

This role will be filled by a Traditional Owner or local Aboriginal person and presents an important development opportunity for a Traditional Owner with a strong interest in land management.

Duties include:

  • Working closely with Traditional Owners to support their social and economic aspirations regarding their country during mine closure and beyond.
  • General support work for the Gelganyem Group and its businesses, including Gooring Jimbila Contracting (a civil construction company undertaking land management activities) and Gelganyem Seed Operation (a business that collects and processes native species seed for the purposes of land rehabilitation).

Essential Knowledge, Skills And Experience

Ideal candidates will:

  • Be a Traditional Owner or local Aboriginal person with a strong interest in land management.
  • Understand the rights and aspirations of Traditional Owners and, ideally, previous experience of working in close partnership with Traditional Owner communities.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Botany, Environmental Science or Indigenous Land Management or willing to conduct tertiary training.
  • Ability to work un-supervised - self motivation and reliability in completing assigned tasks.
  • Computer literacy and sound ability working with Microsoft Office suites.
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound time management and organisational skills.
  • Good understanding of health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Current C class driver license.
  • Experienced with remote outdoor work and 4WD competency.
