GIS technician

Bass Coast, Victoria

TerraLab provides GIS and ecological consulting services to its clients, as well as supplying the STA logger worldwide. A rare opportunity is available for a GIS technician to join the team.

The successful candidate will be engaged as a casual, with the perks of a work from home lifestyle, and will work closely with a small team of experts. The position has room to grow.

A GIS technician solves spatial data problems for TerraLab clients. This includes managing spatial data, designing and deploying mobile mapping applications, building web mapping applications, and producing high-quality cartography. Field surveys are also a part of the GIS technician's role which includes mobile mapping projects, high-accuracy GNSS surveys, site inspections, plot marking and assisting in ecological assessments. Field work is often remote, requiring long travel times and occasionally multiple night stays away from home. A GIS technician may also be involved in the maintenance and support of STA logger systems. For desktop duties, a GIS technician works remotely (work from home).

Although desktop work can be completed remotely, due to the location of field work and the preference for occasional face to face meetings, it is preferred that applicants are located within a comfortable driving distance of Phillip Island, Victoria.

Those with experience in one of the following additional fields will be favoured: terrestrial ecology, cultural heritage management, transport and routing.
