We are looking for a Birds on Farms Project Coordinator to implement a new project aimed at restoring woodland habitat, landscape connectivity, and populations of woodland birds on private rural properties across a region spanning from the ACT northwards to Yass and surrounds.

It will deliver a 'Birds on Farms' program approach that encourages landscape-scale management of temperate woodlands and associated habitats, using a combination of monitoring, community education and engagement and restoration planning with landholders.

You Will Do This By

  • Undertaking project coordination and implementation, with the support of a project officer.
  • Working with local experts to identify priority areas for conservation, restoration and monitoring.
  • Coordinating the development and implementation of a bird monitoring program.
  • Working with rural landholders to develop plans for their property that address the retention and enhancement of woodland habitats.
  • Developing and distributing relevant education materials, and implementing other engagement activities, to raise public awareness of the key conservation needs of threatened and declining woodland birds.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with project partners and volunteers.
  • Managing and delivering contract and project milestones on time and within budget.

Status And Remuneration

This is a Full-time position (1FTE) offered on a 3-year contract. Alternative proposals as a 0.8 FTE four days per week will be considered. Hours are flexible with some weekend and evening work required.

This role is based in the ACT-to-Yass region. It is expected that the successful applicant would work from a home office (or similar) situated within or immediately adjoining the project area.

Salary range $78,165 - $83,172 per annum (for a full time equivalent) inclusive of superannuation - dependant on experience and expertise of successful applicant. You will also enjoy great benefits, including additional special leave entitlements and 17.5% annual leave loading.

To Apply For This Role You Must Have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Conservation Biology, Environmental Science or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability in managing projects, budgets and other staff.
  • Experience in woodland bird conservation and/or terrestrial habitat management in Australia.
  • Excellent communications skills, including public speaking and writing for a variety of audiences.
  • Experience in working with volunteers and rural communities.
  • A current driver's licence.
  • Have valid Australian work rights with permission to work.
