The Perfect Opportunity

Take advantage of this unique and challenging opportunity to work within a dedicated team of ecological and environmental professionals managing some of New South Wales’ most sensitive environmental assets; including the Port Stephens Koala population, extensive wetland and coastal environments and some of the State’s most pristine remnant vegetation.

As Council’s Ecologist, you’ll be involved in the provision of specialised ecological and environmental advice to Council in relation to Development Applications, Planning Proposals and Part 5 Projects, while also providing input to State Significant Projects and other various Council environmental strategies and projects.

Successful candidates will need to:

  • demonstrate experience in ecological impact assessment and review (preferably fauna);
  • show an excellent understanding of the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and the Biodiversity Assessment Methodology (preferably BAM Accredited);
  • have experience in the technical review of ecological reports and environmental assessments;
  • be pragmatic and have the ability to negotiate ‘balanced’ environmental outcomes; and
  • be comfortable working in a dynamic and high performing team.

Please Note: For the purpose of recruitment, the title of Ecologist has been used to reflect the equivalent industry title. Internally the official title of this position is Environmental Planner.
