About the role and your responsibilities:

As the Conservation Planning Officer, the primary focus of your position is to support Landscape and Restoration Planners in developing conservation plans at both the landscape scale and at smaller scales, as programmed by the Manager Conservation Planning.

You will be responsible for sourcing and preparing information and analysing spatial or other data or inputs as background for the preparation of conservation plans. You will prepare for, and assist in the facilitation of, workshops to elicit information required for the preparation of conservation plans as well as providing logistical and administrative support to the Conservation Planning team.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • A tertiary qualification in environmental science, natural resource management or a similar discipline
  • Previous experience in conservation and/or environmental management
  • Demonstrated experience in data analysis and report writing
  • A current employee Working with Children Check before commencing employment with us

About the branch:

The Environment and Science Division provides scientific and technical advice and strategic guidance on environment and conservation matters across Parks Victoria and to the Department of Environment Land Water and Planning and other government agencies on environmental conservation policy, funding needs and program delivery. The Division brings together strategy, planning, science, programming, monitoring and evaluation for Park Victoria with a focus on delivery of frameworks, standards and advice.

The Conservation Planning Unit leads the development of conservation plans to address ecological needs and to support regions in directing conservation effort. Given the environmental challenges facing park management, the plans developed by this unit are essential to ensure conservation management is targeted and effective, and to enable evaluation and adaptation of actions.
