Biosis is looking to appoint an ambitious Graduate Environmental Planner to join our team in Melbourne on a full-time 12-month contract basis with the opportunity to extend for the right candidate. This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading consultancy that provides ecological, heritage and environmental approval services throughout south-eastern Australia.  

Biosis employs a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team of aquatic ecologists, archaeologists, botanists, zoologists, environmental planners and GIS analysts.  We have offices in Albury, Ballarat, Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Wangaratta, Western Sydney and Wollongong.

Our Melbourne office is located in Port Melbourne, close to the CBD and easily accessible by public transport.  We are a very short walk from the North Port tram stop. This central location provides access to all the services of Melbourne without the hassle of traffic and parking.

About the role

The Graduate Environmental Planner will have high level of aptitude for environmental planning, capable of providing sound planning advice and guidance to our clients. Your responsibilities will include participating in, conducting and managing projects, and the production of technical reports.  Additional duties will include; proposal writing, business development and establishing a profile in the professional community as an environmental planner.

Working closely with our multi-disciplinary team of professionals, you will become an integral member of the environmental approvals team in VIC, a key contributor to existing and future projects throughout VIC, and a driver for the development of our environmental planning capabilities in the region.

Essential Selection Criteria

To be considered for this role, please demonstrate these required skills and attributes within your cover letter:

  • Tertiary qualifications in planning.
  • Interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong report and proposal writing skills.
  • Basic experience in marketing and business development including proposal preparation and client liaison.
  • Competency with computer programs and software such as MS word, excel, outlook, and/or similar software packages.

 Desirable skills and attributes:

  • Experience in client liaison and consultation.
  • Knowledge of project management, including managing budgets.
  • Knowledge of Commonwealth and State legislation with regard to environmental approvals.
  • An understanding of the Planning and Environment Act 1987, the Victoria Planning Provisions and the planning approvals process.
  • Knowledge of Environmental Effects Statements (EES) and Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC) referrals/approval management.
