Bourke Area has a fantastic opportunity to join the NPWS team delivering conservation and visitor programs in parks around Bourke.
About the role
You’ll be joining a supportive team undertaking a diverse range of tasks to enhance and preserve the natural and cultural heritage of our parks.
This may include leading a team to maintain and construct park facilities; protection of cultural sites; undertake pest and weed control programs utilising pesticides, chemicals or firearms; and assisting with fire management activities such as mowing, slashing, grading, and joining a highly trained team to implement hazard reduction burns and wildfire response.
With the support of a senior field supervisor, you’ll work closely with rangers in identifying and prioritising maintenance works. Senior field officers are flexible and organised, and work well in a team environment or alone with minimal supervision. At times you’ll be relied upon to also supervise other field staff and contactors. A trade background is beneficial but is not essential. Some travel will be involved in this role and possibly for multiple days at a time depending on work requirements.
The essential requirements:
The role of Senior Field Officer, including firefighting related activities, is very physically demanding, requiring heavy muscular activity, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling loads, bending, climbing, and driving a variety of vehicles. Senior Field Officer applicants must meet the requirements of a specific medical assessment, which is inclusive of a clearance to undertake the fitness test for firefighting fitness roles. The applicant must pass the task based fitness assessment to a moderate level within the probationary period (12 months), and annually thereafter.
The role holder must obtain certification at the appropriate level prior to undertaking firefighting/incident control duties.
A recruitment pool may be created for ongoing and temporary roles of the same role or role type that may become available for filling over the next 18 months.
