The Centre for Invasive Species Solutions (CISS) brings together government, industry and research partners to develop coordinated and collaborative research, development and extension portfolios and innovation pipelines that meet national invasive species challenges.

Through scientific leadership and alliances, they act as a catalyst to deliver ethical invasive species solutions in Australia and beyond.

The Opportunity

This is an initial 12-month contract opportunity where you can make a real impact by establishing and delivering the communication of Australia’s approach to pest and weed solutions, via the management of traditional and digital communication channels, and through collaboration to deliver the marketing strategy for the CISS Trust.

  • Hands on strategic and tactical communications role
  • Foster strong media relationships and stakeholder links on behalf of CISS
  • Plan and manage communications budgets and resources

The Role

The primary function of the Communications and Marketing Manager is to manage and implement CISS’ communications and marketing activities encompassing corporate communication, science communication, PR, and media.

  • Manage the CISS’s communication activities: social media, e-newsletters, blog posts, videos, and develop project communication plans
  • Work with scientists to synthesise the science from the CISS and develop knowledge products that are meaningful to end-users and the public
  • Oversee the production of the CISS’s annual report and other key publications
  • Manage production of promotional materials including posters, displays, business cards, corporate products, brochures, fact sheets etc.

Your Background and Experience

This role will suit someone that is passionate about science communication and motivated to use your skills in communications to make a positive impact within Australia’s environmental and agricultural communities.

To be successful in this role you will have the following experience/knowledge:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification
  • Relevant experience in mass media and social marketing channels, targeted at diverse groups of people and focused on agricultural, environment, and/or scientific issues
  • Demonstrated experience in digital media

In addition to the above, you will ideally have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the invasive species area of research and/or other NGO space
  • Experience in a member-based organisation
  • Demonstrated knowledge / experience in financial management and budgeting
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge in science e.g. ecology, wildlife management etc

Salary / Rate

  • Salary available upon request + 10% Super (negotiable depending on relevant experience)
  • Full-time 12 month contract position with a potential 5 year extension
  • Flexible work arrangement available
