The Project Officer Coasts is responsible for delivering a two-year project to build a series of small, native oyster shellfish reefs in the waters off Kangaroo Island. This will involve overseeing the location and construction of the reefs as well as biodiversity monitoring to measure the success of the reefs in improving habitat for native fish. The role will be a key point of contact between the Kangaroo Island Landscape Board and the various stakeholders involved in the project, including recreational fishing groups, the SA Department of Environment and Water, the Australian Government, non-government organisations and the Kangaroo Island community. The role will also play a role in other coastal and marine projects within the region, including conducting fieldwork, education and community engagement activities.

Special Conditions:

  • A tertiary qualification in biology, ecology, environment science, natural resource management or other relevant field is essential. Identifies and evaluates relevant data, is able to appropriately contextualise the data, and draws sound conclusions.
  • Provides thoroughly researched documents that are expressed concisely, in plain English and in unambiguous terms.
  • Prioritises workload and allocates time appropriately.
  • Has current knowledge and grasp of the relevant aspects of coastal and marine ecology and natural resource management.
  • Is able to relate confidently to people at all levels in an organisation and work with networks to get things done.
  • Hold or willing to obtain a SA Recreational Boating Licence and/or Coxswains certificate.
  • Hold or willing to obtain a current Advanced Open Water scuba qualification (or equivalent).
