Position and organisational overview

CO2 Australia is an award-winning environmental services company that has been operating since 2004. Our services include carbon emissions reduction projects, carbon and biodiversity offsets, ecological assessments, monitoring and rehabilitation, environmental approvals and integrated land management. With offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Perth, Canberra and Wagga Wagga, we have the demonstrated capacity to deliver projects Australia-wide.

While based in Brisbane, the position may require travel on a project-by-project basis, including occasional extended stays away from home. At all times, work must be undertaken in accordance with company procedures and the Environmental Scientist is expected to maintain a safe workplace, including compliance with CO2 Australia’s Health and Safety Management System.

Reporting relationships

The position reports to the Head of Ecosystem Markets and Innovation.

Key responsibilities

Support the the Head of Ecosystem Markets and Innovation, Environmental Scientist and Principal Ecologist in the management and delivery of projects, including environmental offset projects. This includes:

  • Liaison with internal stakeholders, clients and regulators.
  • Planning, coordinating and undertaking flora and fauna surveys and ecological assessments, including BioCondition assessments and application of the NSW Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM).
  • Planning and coordinating on ground works (planting, weed and pest management, monitoring and maintenance works etc), including management of sub-contractors.
  • Development of environmental and offset management plans and monitoring programs.
  • Mapping and analysis using geospatial systems including ArcGIS.
  • Preparation of offset agreements, including Biodiversity Stewardship Agreements.
  • Provision of advice and direction regarding relevant regulatory frameworks and project approval pathways.
  • Preparation of various reports, written client communications, proposals, tender applications and other business development initiatives.
