  • Flora and fauna surveys and monitoring
  • Biodiversity strategies and conservation management plans

As the successful candidate, you will manage small- to large-size projects and contribute to other projects, from the collection and analysis of data, to the production of technical reports. You will be able to provide accurate advice to clients on the environmental policy and legislative implications of their projects. You will demonstrate strong project management skills, and previous experience in consulting is highly desirable but not mandatory.

Ideally, you will be prepared to work flexible hours, work away from home for short periods, and occasionally travel in a company vehicle to remote field locations throughout south-eastern Australia, but mostly within Victoria. A Victorian Manual Driver’s Licence and capacity to work outdoors in remote locations are essential. We have strict COVID-19 protocols in place to ensure the safety of our team.

Selection Criteria:

As the successful candidate, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in the ecological sciences;
  • Sound knowledge of the vertebrate fauna of south-eastern Australia—including their ecology and management—and field identification skills;
  • 5+ years experience for Senior, or 10+ for Principal, in ecological consulting, including with the planning and implementation of surveys and monitoring, data analysis and preparation of technical reports;
  • A thorough understanding of Commonwealth and State environmental legislation and policies, including the Native Vegetation clearing regulations and DELWP's vegetation quality assessment (habitat hectare) methodology;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, together with excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Effective technical writing skills, mostly for non-scientific or lay-readers;
  • The ability to provide high level technical and non-technical advice to, and supervise and/or mentor, team members as required;
  • The ability to provide high level advice with regard to ecological issues, conservation values, site management and legislative/policy implications;
  • The ability to work on or manage projects independently without supervision in a team environment, and to work on and deliver multiple projects within the required timeline and budget;
  • Some experience in the use of GIS and statistical software packages are desirable;
  • The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from all disciplines and contribute to a range of projects;
  • The ability to develop and maintain networks, attend industry events and undertake occasional marketing activities to promote Ecology Australia’s range of services to industry;
  • The ability to effectively communicate with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders including participation at workshops and project meetings; and
  • The ability to deal with clients, colleagues and regulatory authorities with personal and professional integrity.
