A rare opportunity to join our team and implement a diverse ecological monitoring program to support management of the Chowilla Floodplain and implementation of The Living Murray Program.

The position will work closely with team members working on the Katarapko and Pike Floodplains and the River Murray Channel.

Working both individually and collaboratively with other team members and external experts you will deliver ecological monitoring, undertake project management and provide advice relating to environmental water planning and implementation.

Chowilla’s cultural significance also brings the opportunity to work with the Traditional Owners and through the Living Murray Program the position provides the unique opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from across the Murray Darling Basin.

The successful applicant will:

  • Have a minimum of a degree level qualification in Ecology or similar.
  • Have experience in applying ecological monitoring methods and practices in the field, and it will be a bonus if you can bring a sound understanding of floodplain ecology.
  • Be comfortable working in the field in remote settings
  • Be a creative problem solver focussed on making a difference
  • Be an effective team player who is able to collaborate to achieve outcomes while also being prepared to work alone when required.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills

Special Conditions:

  • May be required to participate in fire management and associated duties
  • Some out of hours work, inter and intra-state and remote travel involving overnight absences may be required.
  • A current class “C” driver’s licence and willingness and ability to safely operate a 4wd is essential.
