The Farm Byron Bay, is an 80-acre working farm, just a stone’s throw from Byron Bay proper. It is home to a community of growers, producers, eateries, and educators who share a passion for growing food using traditional, sustainable methods. With the ethos of grow, feed, educate and give back.

The Farm Byron Bay now enters an exciting new era together with new owner Fraser Short and The Sydney Collective.

Together with all “the farmily” we are working towards improving the health and wellness of our community, from the ground up.

The Farm is home to pigs, cows and chickens, market gardens and florists all of which roam freely and are used for veg, meat and eggs in the on-site restaurant, cafe and a produce store. Flowers, fruit and vegetables are also grown and used and sold on-site.

The farm also curates and operates seasonal educational sessions and farm tours from bread making to regenerative farming practices and in between.

About the Role

As the Farm General Manager you will have the opportunity to develop the site further by continuing the legacy that has already been created, and lead the next phase of the journey.

This is a varied and unique role where you will be responsible for the day to day management of the farm, as well as the multiple outlets. Community and supplier relationships are key to the continued success of The Farm.

Ideally, you will have an in-depth of farm management experience that will allow you to manage the operations of a diverse, farm production system.

Day to day, you will be responsible for:

  • Creating and implementing new ideas and ways to develop our organic farming practices;
  • Relationship management of the multiple contracts and vendors;
  • Leading a diverse team who align to our vision of ‘grow, feed & educate and give back’
  • Planning and executing the farm’s operations, demonstrating optimum land use;
  • Manage financials and drive profitability.
  • Develop and Deliver highly engaging educational sessions for all aspects of organic farming and regenerative agriculture.
  • Work with ‘the wider farmily’ to deliver an extensive calendar of educational events and
  • Partiticipate in activities that highlight our “grow feed educate and give back philosophy.”

What are we looking for?

  • We’re looking for an incredible and adaptable leader who will be the face of The Farm.
  • Great work ethic that leads by example.
  • A passion for engaging and sharing your knowledge – education and community engagement is key for our combined success.
  • Strong knowledge and interest in regeneration, and organic farming practices is essential;
  • Qualification – Bachelor of Agricultural Science or equivalent (preferred);
  • Previous hospitality business experience (preferred);
  • Commercial acumen with proven capability experience in P&L management and business growth strategies;

Location - The Farm is located in Byron Bay. Relocation support can be discussed for the successful candidate.

Salary - Negotiable depending experience. Time Frame - Mid-November 2020 start.

The Farm General Manager is someone passionate about organic farming, who loves working on the land and leads by example. We are now recruiting a Farm General Manager who is passionate about teaching others, while taking people on a learning journey around organic and regenerative farming.
